A vintage Epiphone Elitist guitar may be found in local music stores, at auctions and even some larger pawn shops might have one. As always, one could go online and look. Offers appear on eBay from time to time. Right now the website Musician's Friend has it in stock.
Epiphone is to Gibson what squier is to fender. A 'sister' company. Despite this, epiphone were producing instruments before Gibson, but that doesn't matter. High end Gibson instruments are produced in America, as opposed to epiphones which i believe are built in Korea. Gibsons generally feature slightly differing specifications in terms of dimensions and weight. Gibsons also feature higher quality parts, as youd expect from the much higher price. This is not to say that epiphones are bad instruments at all - i have one and it is fantastic. The name on the headstock also alters the price.
i have only ever seen Jason playing Gibson J-200 Acoustic/Electric guitars and on a very rare occasion a Gibson Les Paul. I saw him live in concert last month(8/9/2012) & was shocked(had never seen or heard of him playin' an Electric before) when he came out rockin' a Vintage Sunburst Epiphone(a Gibson brand) Les Paul Jr to do a cover of Kid Rock's "Cowboy". I watched some Youtube vids of his on-going My Kinda Party Tour & he regularly does this cover in his live shows & he does it well(it brings down the house). It looks like(judging by the vids available) he started this tour playing a Vintage Sunburst Epiphone Les Paul Special II but in his recent shows he's been using the LP Jr.
Under $300, (thats what they sold for new in the early '80's) the problem is the "made in japan" stigma I entirely disagree - 'Made in Japan' is a sign that vintage guitars were made by the best Luthiers in the world at the time. I just saw a PR-650 at $700 - an Epiphone Texan of 60's-70's goes for $5000. Keep digging.

He plays a vintage Fender Precision Bass. Actually he has got two basses choosing one of them to use throughout a concert. One is fiesta red and the other is sunburst, both with a dark tortoise shell pickguard and rosewood fingerboard. He also uses a vintage white or yellow Fender Mustang Bass when performing "A message" live. The red bass looks something like Pino Palladino's signature bass http://www.fender.com/customshop/instruments/search.php?partno=0158200840
