On the 4.0 L - OHV - engine , its on the drivers side of the upper " plastic " intake
manifold
The 1996 Ford Explorer overdrive sensor can be found on the right hand side of the transmission. The overdrive sensor will be near the front of the transmission.
Assuming it has the 5.0 engine, the (IAT) Intake Air Temperature Sensor is located in the air intake snorkel between the air filter box and the throttle body.
