Why US lose the vietman war?

The Vietnam war was virtually impossible for the US to win. This was know before entering the war. The United States entered the Vietnam war in order to keep with the foreign policy of containment. This was spurred by belief in "the domino effect"; which stated that if one country fell to communism the Soviet union would quickly take over neighboring countries too. The United states failed to stop communism in Vietnam due to insufficient troops, challenging and unfamiliar terrain, and lack of support from the Vietnamese. The United States true loss was in the process of pulling out of the war. By staying in far too long, simply to save face, the United States caused wide spread and unnecessary damage permanently impairing the rest of the worlds view on US foreign affairs.
