I'm not certain that "handicapped" is a good description but Piggy does wear thick glasses and he is very fat (to quote from the book). He also suffers from Asthma and a certain reluctance towards doing work. All of these things combine to handicap Piggy by impossing physical limitations on what he can do. Piggy's thought processes and decision are also rather rigid and he finds difficulty adapting to new ideas. He indicated this by his shout of "Nuts!" In reply to Simon's suggestion that the beast might be "Just us."
Both of the lens of his glasses break, leaving him blind. *more or less*
Piggy is portrayed as being physically handicapped in the novel "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. He wears glasses and has poor eyesight, which is a physical limitation for him on the island. This makes him vulnerable and reliant on the other boys for assistance.
Piggy's vision was very poor without his glasses. He was also the only chubby boy in the group, which might be considered a handicap. Piggy was the Voice of Reason, but not apparently a leader.
