Best Answer
  1. Raise and support the vehicle and place jackstands under the cradle. Vehicle weight should not be placed on the control arms.
  2. Remove the wheel assembly.
  3. Install drive axle boot protectors.
  4. Remove the cotter key from the ball joint nut and, using a ball joint removal tool, separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
  5. Drill out the ball joint retaining rivets. It may be necessary to chisel the drilled out rivets out of the control arm, even after drilling them "out."
  6. Remove the stabilizer bar bushing to control arm bolt.
  7. Pull the control arm downward and remove the ball joint from the steering knuckle and control arm.
  8. Reverse procedure to install. Torque the new ball joint attaching nuts to 50 ft lbs . The ball joint stud nut should be torqued to specifications, about 64 ft lbs.
