Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back was when he started to train as a Jedi.
Luke Skywalker is a real name of a fictional character potrayed by a real life actor in a science-fiction film with a fictional storyline.
Do you mean Darth Vader? He died in Episode VI Return of the Jedi after being electrocuted by the Emperors sith lightning. At the end of the film he was cremated by his son Luke Skywalker and is later seen as a force ghost.
Only for a few seconds at the end of the film.
The controversy surrounding "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" mainly revolves around the portrayal of Luke Skywalker as a disillusioned and morally conflicted hero. This has led to divided opinions among fans, with some appreciating the new direction and others criticizing it for deviating from the character's established traits. The perceived "rotten" elements refer to aspects of the film that some fans feel were poorly executed or did not align with their expectations.
Yes, he died in the newly released film, The Last Jedi.
Star Wars
He first appears under the guise of Darth Vader in the original film trilogy; Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and the subsequent prequel films present Anakin Skywalker, a conflicted Jedi Knight who falls to and returns from the dark side of the Force. Before his fall to the dark side, Vader fathers both Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa; Luke ultimately redeems his father in Return of the Jedi, and Anakin sacrifices himself to save his son.

Star Wars: A New Hope
It is likely that the name "Luke Skykiller" is an early concept thought of by George Lucas in early drafts, during the production of the first Star Wars film. Thinking of new ideas on a new science fiction story, his first concept depicted a space-themed adventure starring a young teenager named Annikin Starkiller who lives on the moon of Utapau. This later on changed to the story of a boy named Luke Starkiller who lives on the desert world of Utapau. Luke Skykiller may have evolved from the name Luke Starkiller. But then George felt that the term "Skykiller" sounded too menacing for a name of a space hero. In the final draft, as the story is today, the original Star Wars saga tells a story about a young teenage boy named Luke Skywalker, who hails from a planet called Tatooine that orbits a binary system.
It all began in the very first film, but I'd have to say he really matured when he learned that Darth Vader was his father
There isn't a sequel to Return of the Jedi [Star Wars Episode 6], at least not a direct sequel. There was another trilogy produced, Episodes 7 [2015], 8 [2017] & 9 [2019]. The Force Awakens [Episode 7] does have a few links to the original trilogy, like Darth Vader's melted/burnt helmet, how Kylo Ren got it from the forest moon of Endor was never explained and Luke's missing lightsaber, presumably the one he lost on Cloud City, but other than those, the storyline which takes place decades later, has nothing to do with continuing the plot of Return of the Jedi.
