some videos will not work with windows movie maker because they are mp4s and need to be changed to a different files to be able to edit on WMM
AVI and MOV files are video files. AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave. MOV is an apple format of a movie file.
It produces .wma (for audio files) and .wmv (for video files).
.pdf files are not media files - they are more like Word documents than media files. Movie Maker will allow you to use compatible audio and video formats, but since .pdf files are neither audio nor video files, they will not work, and there would be no point in using them in Movie Maker.

You have to have the original source files available to be able to Publish a video in Windows Movie Maker. If they are not available on your computer (for the program to access) then you can't publish the video.
