Professor Dept. pf Chemistry Rajus College, Rajapalayam India Any metal salts on dissolution in water dissociates to form ions (Positively charged Cations and negatively charged anions). This ions are conducting electricity. For instance common salt NaCl on dissolution n water give Na+ cation and Cl- anion. Na+ ion move towards cathode - negative electrode and Cl- ion move towards anode - positive electrode. So electron transfer occurs indirectly which is responsible for the conduction of electrons.
