Mafia Wars more weapons armors and vehicles then mafia members is it true they all become useless?

Yes, only one of each category can be used per mafia member in a fight or robbery. However, the list of items used for attacking and being attacked is not the same (at less all your inventory happens to have the same attack and defense numbers).
