What are the major rivers and mountains in Iran?

There are major mountain ranges like like the Zagros Mountains in the West and the Alborz Mountains in the North. In the center of the country is a raised desert and there are numerous forested areas on its outskirts.

Iran mostly consists of the Iranian Plateau. Its landscape dominated by rugged mountain ranges that separate various basins or plateaus from one another. In the west, there are several famous mountain ranges, including the Caucasus, Zagros and the Alborz Mountains.

The northern part of Iran is covered by dense rain forests called Shomal or the Jungles of Iran. The eastern part consists mostly of desert basins such as the Dasht-e Kavir, Iran's largest desert.
