It is either lonely or scared of something in it's enviroment. All birds need attention and companionship. If it doesn't have a mate, you have to supply the attention. Depending on the species, this can be several hours a day. You don't have to be holding them all this time, but they should be able to see you and get responses from you. When my Cockatoo wants attention, I put him on my shoulder and go about my business. That's all he wants.
