Racism is a form of discrimination, based on race. Like other forms of discrimination, the core idea is that there are generalized differences between two groups, and that those differences make one group inherently superior.

More specifically, racism is the belief that human races exist and these races possess different abilities and characteristics and that some races are superior to others, making us inherently different and unequal. Often, racists do not want to live in multi-racial societies, rather they encourage separation and segregation and want to live amongst their "own kind." Others, more in keeping with other forms of discrimination, believe that it is perfectly fine to live among members of the "other" group, as long as there is a clear understanding of who is better and who has the power. Subservience and control is usually the goal in this case, as with most gender discrimination.

Racism does not inherently include violence as part of the definition, but when one group believes they are superior to another group, then biased behaviors based on those beliefs can spawn disrespect and humiliation. In extreme cases, racist beliefs (or any discriminatory beliefs) can promote violence, defamation, murder, rape, torture, and/or genocide.

Racial prejudice or discrimination:

A racist is a person who has an intense hatred for any person not in his own ethnic group. Usually this hatred stems from an irrational fear of different lifestyles or beliefs. The racist long ago quit listening to other viewpoints or explanations and replaced honest questions about the group with irrational fear and/or hatred.

In each of the stereotypes, notice that the racist has not (1) met the group (2) has never read any history of the group or (3) is scared that what he has been taught is true. Because of his fear, he immediately hates any person of the group he meets and in some cases, will try to harm the person he meets.

A racist is someone who discriminates against people on the basis of race and abuses or exploits them using either verbal or physical means. The motive behind discrimination is usually hatred or to make fun of people from another race, often due to ignorance, irrationalities, hatred, or all of the above.

It can be something just as simple as not hiring someone just because they're Hispanic, black, or white. Or it could be just having the thoughts that the black kid in your class is not as good as you.
