A good example of a fractured mineral is quartz. Cleavage, on the other hand, occurs when minerals break along weak atomic bonding planes. Cleavage creates your flatter, more geometric surfaces. Look at mica. It creates what look like sheets of paper due to it's excellent cleavage.
