There have been several female third party candidates for President and Vice President, but the only two female major party Vice-Presidential nominees have been U.S. Representative Geraldine Ferraro of New York for the Democratic Party in 1984 and former Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska for the Republican Party in 2008.
In 1984, Palin won the Miss Wasilla beauty contest (according to most but not all sources, playing the flute and winning the "Miss Congeniality" award as well), then finished second in the Miss Alaska pageant, at which she won a college scholarship. Palin attended Hawaii Pacific College -- now known as Hawaii Pacific University -- in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1982 for a semester, where she majored in Business Administration, and transferred in 1983 to North Idaho College. In 1987, Palin received a Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism from the University of Idaho, where she also minored in political science. Geraldine Ferraro (Democratic) in 1984 and Sarah Palin (Republican) in 2008.
The first female candidate for vice president was Sarah Palin. She was the running mate of John McCain in 2008.
Sarah Palin was won Miss Wasilla in 1984 and went on to become the first runner-up in the Miss Alaska Pageant. she also won Miss Congeniality that year -she probably had to enter and win a few pageants to get to the final. I wish we could find more pictures of her she is a real beautiful woman. I think she will have the same effect on leaders of other countries that Jackie Kennedy did.
Geraldine Ferraro (1984) and Sarah Palin (2008)
She is at least 5 feet tall, likely 5'5" as indicated on IMDB. According to an article in the New York Times (Sunday, 9/14/2008), her former hair stylist from the "Pink Beehive" was quoted as saying that Sarah Palin's hairstyle (the updo) was created to make her look taller because "she is short." The stylist did not define "short." John McCain is reported to be around 5'7." Sarah Palin, in high heels, appears to be equal to him in height. A reasonable guess is that she is approximately 5'5" and 5'7" in two inch heels. Her statistics from the Miss Alaska Contest in 1984 should give accurate measurements (with age related changes for weight) and are currently being researched.
