water mold
The potato blight caused the famine, the species being Phytophthora infestans.
it was not a mould it was a disease called blight
It was caused by a blight caused by the water mold Phylophthora infestans which caused the potato to becom black, mushy and inedible.
There was a disease going around called mildew which made the potatoes all black and mushy so nobody could eat them or they would be poisoned The disease was not called Mildew, it was called The Blight (Phytophthora infestans). The potato famine was caused by a fungi called potato blight. after just days from coming out of the ground, the potato's would be slimy, black, and rotten.
i would say it was the potatoes but if it wasn't i know that there was a mold growing on the potatoes so many of them were lost. there was more food sold by the british or English not sure but it was expensive so many people couldn't afford it. most people lost their homes and either traveled to America which was not as great as they thought or theygot their food from soup kitchens. Recourses: just finished a book on the Irish potato famine and wrote a 5 page essay on Irish history i am an Ireland FREAK! and am gonna live there someday!!!!!!
