Old mountains are typically rounded and lower in elevation due to millions of years of erosion, while young mountains tend to be rugged and taller due to tectonic activity. Old mountains have more weathered and mature ecosystems, while young mountains have more diverse and rapidly evolving ecosystems.
Erosion from wind and rain. It might take a million years or more but the weather can turn a sharp peak into a rounded peak. Stone Mountain in Georgia is a good example. Rounded over the top, bet a few million years ago, it was assumed that it was a craggy peak.
