I always fling BOTH in the garbage and buy another glue trap.

A few hours to a day or so, better you stand on it and put it out of it's misery
if you are having a mouse or rat problem you will more likely catch the animal that way
Obviously a mouse (or mice) are trapped within the area you have sealed off.
