∙ 14y agoThe movies were a Depression-Proof business (25 cents & 10 cents for children). People went to the movies to escape. They enjoyed watching films that featured George Raft, Edward G. Robinson, and James Cagney, especially as they depicted criminals who always ended up paying for their crimes. Other favorites included Marie Dressler, Janet Gaynor, Shirley Temple, Mickey Rooney, Jean Harlow, and Clark Gable.
