You can, but you still have a cooling problem that needs rectification.
bad water pump or low coolant level
The coolant fan continues to run after the engine has cooled and then turned off. The fan continues to run and runs the battery down.
This is a diagnostic process. If the coolant isn't low and the fan will run when the AC is turned on it will need a Mechanic to Diagnose.
The 1999 Saturn S-Series engine heats up the coolant, the thermostat valve opens and the coolant circulates between the radiator and the engine. Then the radiator fans turn on to cool it back down. The fans are also turned on when the air conditioner is turned on to aid in cooling the radiator and the air conditioner condensor.
Cooling fan should come on when coolant temperature exceeds 235 degrees Fahrenheit or A/C or defroster are turned on
A bad thermostat can cause overheating in a Nissan Frontier when the air conditioning is turned on. A bad compressor can also cause this.
You can use it safely by not puting your hand in the blades when it is turned on.
Fan should come on when the A/C is turned on. Fan should also come on around 1mm before redline or at the very edge of redline as per the gauge on the cluster.
The extra load imposed by the air conditioning compressor is overheating the engine. This could be caused by numerous things, but the most common would be either a broken thermostat, low coolant, or a badly tuned engine. Take it to a mechanic.
A leak.
You can check the cooling fan relay under the hood in the junction box but it would be a lot easier to just scan the vehicles computer......
It sounds like your cooling is not working when you turn on the a/c system...........
