My Toyota tazz 1300 on occasion jerks back and looses spead for no reason when driving-i can change gear and accelorate but nothing-carbs antihijack petrol tank have been checked and are ok?

My 1300 Tazz (2001) recently started jerking occasionally, even backfired once or twice. After invesigation, a Toyota mechanic advised there could be water in the petrol (sometimes from the petrol station!) and suggested a bottle of 500ml 'Evron Injector Cleaner' that you throw in the tank (preferably once your fuel is lower than a half tank). Wether or not it was water in the tank, he stuff sorted out the problem, only costng R35 / $3.5. If you can find that or something similar, it can only only help your vehicle even if it does not solve the specific problem, though hopefully it will. Also, check your perol filter and consider repacing that (very cheap!). Good luck.
