My computer Hard drive is not being detected when i try to install win xp therefore i am unable to format and install a new operating sysytem. can you help?

If your Hard Disk was not Dected in Bios or XP Setup Wizard then 99% possibility your hard disk is Damage.try to change or Repair from Repair Center.
Has the drive EVER worked? If it uses a parallel cable make sure the jumpers are right, If there are more than one drive you may need to set it to "master" and the second drive to "slave".
Next, make sure pin one on the parallel cable connects to pin one on the IDE drive socket on the motherboard and that it's connected to pin one on the drive. It's easy to cross the cables and if you do that it won't work. The red stripe on the cable goes to pin one on both the motherboard and the disk.
Last, if you have more than one IDE socket make sure you're connecting the primary drive to "IDE 1"
SATA is a lot easier, just make sure it's plugged in and follow the manufacturers instructions.
Make sure you've followed the motherboard AND drive manufacturers directions and have connected the drive properly. Next, go to the BIOS and verify that the drive has been detected.
