My dog gets white foam coming from his nose when he's hiking with us. It doesn't seem to impede him, but it looks weird. I can deal with the drooling and foaming around the mouth, but the nose foam is strange. What's the deal??

You want to prevent the germs from the tissue from connecting with any other person. Throwing the tissue away prevents the spread of germs.
You can make a cheap mascot costume using foam, leaving holes for the eyes, mouth, and nose. You can also make them out of plenty of fabric for a more defined look.
