My guinea pig bites my clothes?

There are a number of reasons that your guinea pig is communicating to you in this way.

From experience with my guinea pigs I have found that:

1. My guinea pigs bite or pull my clothes mainly when they are trying to tell me that they would like to go back to their cage so that they can pee.

2. My guinea pigs sometimes bite my clothes when they are hungry or would like me to give them so fresh fruit and veg.

3. biting clothes could also be a sign that your guinea pigs teeth are too long and they have nothing to chew to shorten them. Guinea pigs teeth, like most rodents, never stop growing so they need to have so wood or chew sticks in their cage to bite so that their teeth are kept at a healthy length. If your guine pigs teeth are too long take immediately to the vets to have them cut so as not to cause discomfort for you piggie. [Apple tree twigs are really good for their teeth too! Don't get them of the groud or if they are sprayed with a pesticide, herbicide. A tip from Kenzie!!! ;} ]

Try not to let them nibble on your clothes because guinea pigs and ferrets can cough things up or make hairballs like cats. Therefore if they get any in their mouth and swallow then it is in them for good. If it gets stuck in their throat there is almost no way to get it out. Any fabric in the cage or on your guinea pig is not the best idea. Harnesses are OK if they aren't furry or fuzzy. Kenzie ;}
