A couple of possible reasons why your headlights don't light up:

Remove the wiring harness from the back of your 1997 Chevrolet Z71 headlights. Remove the headlight retaining bolts. The headlights will come out. Reverse the process to install the new headlights.

There are two clips on the back side of each headlight that you lift vertically. Once the clips are removed the headlights come right out.
