Congrats! Your hermie has just molted! Hermit crabs have exo skeletons so in order to grow they have to shed their skin.

tHIS is a VERY stressful process for them, so never interupt them. They dig underground to molt, so they have to eat and drink a lot before so, because they can be underground for weeks to months.

When you feed hermit crab cucumber do you peel the skin?

Unless it's organic, yes, peel the skin. Hermit crabs are arthropods, just like insects. The insecticides they spray on the commercial crops will likely have negative affects on hermit crabs if they com in contact with them on the skin of the vegetable.

When do you know when you hermit crab is going to die?

You will know when your hermit crab is about to die because it will not move in the shell. When it is not moving it starts to fall out of its shell. Like my hermit crabs 2 of them died and now I only have 1. The first and second one did the same thing of course but they both fell out. You also know when a hermit crab dies, when they a pale or there skin is different. They will not hide into there shell at all. Hopefully your hermit crabs are in good health like mine were!!!

Are hermit crabs repitles?

No, they are invertebrates, meaning they need to molt their skin to grow an example is a snake, they don't grow, they molt their skin to grow, just like the hermit crab.

Do saltwater hermit crabs molt?

Hermit Crabs do shed there skin (when they molt) - which is when you have to pay VERY close attention. You can tell when they're molting because they eat extra, dig holes alot more and sleep most of the day and night.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hermit Crabs look like they die and fell out of thier shell. The skin they left behind looks just like them but they only grew out of thier old skin and are still growing like a snake, cicada, or anything else that sheds and leaves skin or a shell behind. So don't worry. I found one my first time having one. It looked like it was transfering into a new shell. It was in there for a while so when i picked it up the skin fell off and when i thought it died I almost threw the shell away but I looked in the shell and the crab was in the shell still. So thats when i looked up this question. When hermit crabs actually die they look like a shrimp with their tail but when they molt they don't shed all the way to their tail, only half way. HOPE THIS HELPED.

What color are hermit crabs?

The shells can be any color. It depends on what they have available to change into. The crab itself can be a variety of colors, depending on what type they are. Some common hermit crab colors are red, pink, brown, and purple.
