My horse had colic...now he acts like he can't see?

Colic is actually just a symptom that there is pain in the stomach, which can be caused by dozens of things. Normally, colic is caused by overeating, changing the horse over to a new feed too suddenly, worms, eating poisonous plants, as well as countless other things, including disease. Colic itself would not normally cause blindness but certain types of poisons cancause colic and blindness. One of the most common poisonings in horses is called moldy corn poisoning. It happens most often between late fall and early spring, after corn has been stored with too much moisture in it, or has been stored in a damp area and the corn becomes moldy. Moldy corn will have shades of pink and red to reddish brown colors in it. Moldy corn poisoning causes what is known as the blind staggers. A horse that has eaten moldy corn will exhibit signs such as circling, staggering, doesn't blink when you wave your hand in front of their eyes, confusion and panic. A horse can die from moldy corn poison in just a day or two once these signs begin HOWEVER it IS possible save them if the feed is removed and a vet is called soon enough.
