My veiled chameleon hisses at me when i try to hold him. My mom says hes jaws are really strong and may be able to tear skin off is this true and im really scared he might tear the skin off my hand.?

Not at all. Not even a little, their teeth are not even sharp. They use then to crush the exoskeletons of bugs, not tear them apart! when my chameleon hisses I usually put my finger in his mouth because i think his bite feels funky:)
