It sounds like the one(s) with the stiffer sentence may have had a worse criminal history and were treated (sentenced) accordingly....or different juries ... or worse lawyers.
there's no way of knowing, since different people talk more or less than others. not only that but people will have longer or shorter sentences than others.
It depends on the offense that you are charged with. Some have higher sentences than others. The minimum time in jail for a felony would be more than one year.
If the person is convicted the range of punishments is very similar to an adult. Some may be limited to juvenile punishments and end at 18. Others may be adult sentences.

In the first statement the 'myself' is redundant. The second statement inplies that you do whatever it is, in isolation from others. 'by yourself' implies 'on your own'.
