As part of the Midway campaign, the Japanese invaded the Aleutian islands. This was supposed to draw the US' attention north and away from Midway. To counter this the Americans had about 45,000 men stationed in Alaska. They were stationed at Fort Randall (located at Cold Bay), and at two Aleutian bases, the navy base at Dutch Harbor on Unalaska Island and at Fort Glenn. At these two points there was about 2300 men.

If you literally mean "US soil," then Pearl Harbor, Midway, Wake, Guam, The Philippines & The Aleutians. All of these places were a part of the US, although not a state as some would later become.

What wars has the US fought over land?

Major wars in us before civil war?

Because of how the question is worded, the War of 1812 is the only war that would qualify. The Mexican War was fought almost entirely on Mexican soil, much of which became US territory after the war. The Texan Revolution was fought ten years before Texas became a US state. Both the American Revolution and the French and Indian War were fought before the US became a country. Other wars were fought on land claimed by the US, mostly against Native American forces, but these were not major.
