It really depends on what he is crying about. If he is sad because you got mad at him or sad that his parents left or anything, just immediately change the topic ask him what you want to do tonight. Or ask him what he wants for dinner or something. That usually makes them stop crying. If not maybe something is bothering him. Check his diaper to make sure he didn't leave any surprises. Or just give him a toy for him to play with.
