The Brisbane River.
The Brisbane River is located in southeast Queensland, the state that occupies the northeast quadrant of Australia. It is the river upon which the city of Brisbane, capital of Queensland, is built. The headwaters of the Brisbane River are in the Upper Brisbane Valley, near the towns of Harlin and Moore. It then flows down through the ranges to empty into Moreton Bay.
Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia lies on the Brisbane River. The river was discovered first, in 1824, and named the Brisbane River after Governor Brisbane, then Governor of New South Wales. When the city was built, it was named after the river.
The Brisbane River runs through Brisbane. The river was actually named before the city which was, in turn, named after the river. The Brisbane River was named after Governor Thomas Makdougall Brisbane, Governor of the NSW colony at the time when John Oxley explored what is now southeast Queensland.
Australia's national capital, the city of Canberra, is near the Molonglo River.
Brisbane is really the only city that relies on the Brisbane River. The nearby neighbouring city of Ipswich is reliant on the Bremer River, a tributary of the Brisbane River.

The Brisbane River flows through Brisbane, Queensland's capital city. The city was actually named after the river, as the discovery of the river came first.
The city of Brisbane was named after the Brisbane River, which John Oxley was directed to by some ticket-of-leave convicts who had found a good river. Oxley came into contact with these men who had become lost, and they showed him the river. Oxley named the river after Sir Thomas Brisbane, who was the Governor of New South Wales at the time when Brisbane was founded. The city of Brisbane was then named after the river when the first settlement was founded on its banks.
