Quality assurance shows up in different ways throughout industry. In aviation every single action that involves safety of flight must be inspected prior to flight by a quality assurance inspector. In food and other production activities samples are collected and tested for quality, safety, even appearance by people away from the actual production. This provides management with information that can improve products, improve production, reduce waste and so on. It also allows management to pinpoint the exact day and time a particular "lot" was produced if a problem shows up later on at the consumer level.

All together quality assurance helps ensure quality products from a manufacturer for the consumer and it enables manufacturing concerns to streamline their activities as well.
