Maybe there was nothing wrong with the alternator you replaced, and the problem is somewhere else in the charging system!
Although possible, it is highly unlikely that a new alternator would be defective.
Is the alternator actually working. It is possible to buy a new alternator that is defective.
You hear noises coming from the alternator. The dash light for charging stays on. If not equipped with light might be a guage, in which case you see it not charging.
The alternator may have a faulty rectifier or faulty voltage regulator
its the alternator if the car is running with a battery light on. but check fuses first
have you checked the ignition, just had the same on our Renault van, after starting the vehicle the ignition still stays as if you are trying to crank instead of the key returning, automatically shutting off the need for the alternator resulting in the alternator staying on burning out and drainig battery
I'm having the same problem. The cause of the nackered battery and dead alternator could be a faulty charge relay. Try replacing this and see if the light goes out..
The the alternator is defective.
On some car models alternator light stays on until approx 1200 rpm when the engine starts. I'm not sure why this is, maybe something with the rectifier or diodes ...If this phenomenon is new for the car then checking drive-belt condition and tension is good idea. Ift he belt is ok, and you still have that problem, you will have to take the car to a shop that can check your alternators condition.
needs new alternator
I have a 76' Malibu and almost the whole time I have had it the gen light is on except when I just put a new alternator in it. Then the light would go out for a while, but always came back on after a while. What I found out was there is a Diode that goes bad in the alternator and causes the light to come on. Soon you have to get a new alternator.
If a battery light is staying on, it generally means that your alternator isn't charging properly. Be prepared to have to pay for a new alternator, and if it has been damaged, a new battery as well.
Kills alternator? don't you mean kills battery? Installing a new alternator without first charging the battery well (2amp for 8hrs) will quite likely burn up a new alternator as well as being hard on the battery.
