Nightmare on elm street games

There were two Elm Street games released commercially.

1. The first game was released for the NES, and it is the more well known title. It is a sidescrolling beat-em-up where you go from location to location defeating various evil things Freddy sends after you. Unsurprisingly, most of the enemies are uninspired "scary" baddies, prompting one infamous review of the game to point out if you remove Freddy you could rename the game "Boo! Haunted House" and no one would notice the difference. It supported four players through use of the Four Score or NES Satellite. The game also featured "Dream Warriors", which were created by combining character traits of victims in the 3rd and 4th films. Music in the game isn't all bad and includes an 8 bit version of the singsong, as well as a horrid rendition of the Elm Street theme. Overall, it's not a bad game. I'd at least give it a shot if you haven't played it before and are interested. I liked it.

2. The second was released on the Commodore 64 and the PC. It's relatively unknown and didn't get a lot of press, but it is the better of the two games. A Nightmare On Elm Street: Dream Warriors, based on the 3rd film in the series of the same name, has you take control of one of five characters from said film. Each character has their own unique dream power that helps them along the way. Enemies in the game are actually pretty solid as being Elm Street related, sorta. Skeletons, Wheelchairs, evil Slime, Freddy himself all show up at times, and these things were in the films. Roaches too, if I recall correctly from the first movie. However, spooky ghosts coming out of the walls were not. Anyway, the point of the game is to go through ten levels of the dream world, rescuing any characters you can along the way, getting to the last level, and defeating Freddy once and for all. Not a bad game, but not a good one either. I still highly recommend it over the NES beat em up.

3. As for non commercial games, I recommend NONE. All of the ones I've seen have been horrible point and click adventures that suck. Go with the sure thing, and play one of these two.
