The president inherited a major financial crisis when he took over from President Bush. He has since stabilized the economy, but the recovery has been slow for a number of reasons. Undoubtedly, the president wishes the economy had recovered more quickly, but he believes his strategies are in fact moving the country in the right direction. He wants to see the number of people out of work continue to decline, he wants to cut the deficit, and he also wants to see more manufacturing here in the United States. He believes the wealthiest 1% should pay a little more in taxes, but he has authorized two tax cuts for the middle class so far.
