When the check engine light is on it simply means that the computer has detected a problem somewhere. You'll need to take the vehicle to someone who can read the computer fault code or take the vehicle to an automotive parts store that will allow you to borrow, rent or buy a code scanner.
Don't try to guess what's wrong, you'll just get frustrated and put a lot of unnecessary parts in your vehicle.

Check your pcv valve or your gas cap :P
Go to Autozone and have them do a free check engine diagnostic. My 1999 had that problem. It is probably an EGR valve problem. Its a simple fix and helps with fuel efficency.
This is usually cause by a vacuum leak in the fuel tank evaporative system.
The only way you will know what is wrong ( there could be problems that do not affect the way it runs right now ) is to have the computer codes read. If the light is on there "is" a problem.
You need to start by having it checked for codes. Then you will know what to diagnose/fix.
fix the problem and the light goes off its sensors or cat converter but if it runs good don't worry drive it there is nothing really wrong with it light just stays on
Sounds like either your fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter or throttle position sensor.
O2 sensor/s are probably failing. Not serious if you don't mind losing a few MPG.
The light is on because there is a problem with the emissions system. The engine may appear to be running fine but the emissions of the engine are out of spec. It may be as simple as a loose gas cap. Have the ECu scanned with a scan tool to retrieve the code that has been set by the ECU. This will help you find what part is being effected.
it doesnt necessarily mean its gas it can be your engine oil or some other type of oil. or tempt.
If there aren't any problems with the operation of the vehicle replacing a censor isn't necessary . By disconnecting the battery terminals and reconnecting this will eliminate the engine light.
