To replace the brake light on a 2000 Pontiac Montana open the trunk to reveal the housing units. Find the lights and pull the bulbs out. Replace the units.

Your Pontiac has a problem in the electronic block, which is controlling the turn signals, the tail and brake lights and etc. It shouldn't be a big deal.
They are burned out.
When you put the van in gear the brake should pop up. You have to have your foot on the brake before taking it out of park.
The brake light fuses can be found in the fuse box. The brake light fuse will be in the second column, fourth from the top.
possably the switch at the brake? do your brake lights work??
i have three on mine two tail lights and one under the spoiler
By the nature of the question I assume that you are referring to the tail lights and brake lights. My Explorer has four bulbs. Tail, brake turn and backup. They are all in separate compartments of the light assembly. So it could be that you have just burned out one bulb. If you are referring to the upper brake light in the rear window or at the top of the tailgate, same thing. One or more bulbs are burned out. I see people driving all the time with both lower lights burned out and the top working or visa versa.
Put your E brake on before you start start it this will slove your problem the lights will come on when you take the break off before driving
There could be a separate fuse for the lower brake lights , or maybe both lower brake light bulbs are burned out
