On January 14th, 2010 there it was a New Moon.
New Moon.
The phase of the Moon that comes immediately before the new Moon phase is the waning crescent phase.
A waxing Moon can be seen when the Moon is larger in the sky, and is moving from the new Moon phase, and into the full Moon phase. A waning Moon is seen when the Moon is visibly smaller in the sky, and is moving from the full Moon phase, and into the new Moon phase.
The phase of the Moon that occurs when it is three-quarters full just before the full Moon phase is the waxing gibbous phase. This phase occurs as the Moon is waxing, or growing larger, towards the full Moon.
New Moon Phase
In the new Moon phase.
New Moon Phase
The moon will be in its first quarter phase a week from tonight after the new moon phase.
The waxing crescent is the first phase after the new moon.
I am unable to provide real-time information about the current moon phase. You can check the moon phase for today using a moon phase calendar or a moon phase app on your phone.
The crescent phase that precedes the new moon phase is called the waxing crescent, where the illuminated portion of the moon is increasing. The crescent phase that follows the new moon phase is called the waning crescent, where the illuminated portion of the moon is decreasing.
The phase of the moon that immediately precedes the new moon phase is the waning crescent. During this phase, a small sliver of the moon is illuminated, gradually decreasing in size until it becomes completely dark at the new moon. The waning crescent occurs after the third quarter phase and before the new moon.
