Was Galilee a region or a town?

Galilee was a region in the north-west of Israel. It was one of three provinces of Palestine, the other two being Samaria and Judea. It was bordered by Mt Hermon in the north to Mt Carmel and Gilboah on the south, the River Jordan on the east, and the Meditteraenean Sea on the west.

Is Herod the Great and Herod Antipas the same person?

No. When Herod the Great died, his kingdom was divided among three of his sons. Judea and Samaria went to Archelaus, Galilee and the region east of the Jordan River went to Herod Antipas, and the northeastern portions of the kingdom went to Herod Philip I. Herod Antipas (also called Herod the Tetrarch), the ruler in Galilee, participated in the trial of Jesus.

What are the regions that surround Samaria and what were they called?

The city of Samaria was originally the capital of the northern Hebrew kingdom, Israel. At one stage, probably during the reigns of Kings Ahab and Omri, Israel extended its territory north into what is now Syria, east into present-day Jordan and westwards to the Mediterranean Sea. However, this expansion was shortlived, and soon the Assyrians reduced Israel to the city of Samaria and a small territory surrounding the city. After the final conquest of Israel in 722 BCE, the former kingdom became the Assyrian province of Samaria. Large numbers of Israelites were deported or fled to Judah and Egypt, while the Assyrians repopulated the region with people from other conquered lands. Eventually the people of Samaria became known as Samarians, or Samaritans.During the early Roman period, as in the first century CE, Judea was to the south of Samaria, with Idumea to its south, Perea was east of Samaria, Decapolis to the east-northeast, with Galilee and Phoenicia to the north.

What year did the Jews arrive in the west bank?

The Jews first settled the West Bank or as it was known then "Judea and Samaria" 3200 years ago. King David further cemented Jewish hold on Judea and Samaria when he declared Jerusalem his capital. Jews resided throughout the ages in cities such as Hebron, Shchem (Nablus) and (East) Jerusalem but were forced to flee following Jordanian occupation in 1948. Jews started returning to Judea and Samaria (West Bank) in 1967 right after Israel gained control of the territory. Today around 20% of the population in the West Bank is Jewish and their share keeps growing.

Where did many Jews move to after living in Mesopotamia?

Assuming that the Ancient Israelites did come out of Egypt (as there is minimal archaeological evidence for this), the main Israelite settlements were in the Judean Deserts, the Samarian Highlands, the region of Gilead on the East Bank of the Jordan River, and the Galilee Region. The West Bank composes most of Judea and Samaria (with some parts overflowing into the State of Israel. Gilead is currently a small part of Jordan. The Galilee Region is in northern Israel and southern Lebanon. Please see the Attached Map for a visual representation.
