I wanted to visit Europe, so I took a transatlantic flight to London. The first transatlantic flight took place in the early 20th century. The Titanic was unable to complete her first transatlantic crossing. My international communications still rely on the transatlantic cable.
trans, as in transatlantic, as in transatlantic drift or transatlantic flight
The first plane to fly over the Pacific Ocean with a woman at the controls was the "Friendship" in 1928. It was piloted by Amelia Earhart, who became the first woman to successfully complete a transatlantic flight. The flight took off from Newfoundland, Canada, and landed in Burry Port, Wales.

l927. This was the first solo flight successfully completed, but not the first manned Transatlantic flight, as there were two Zeppelins and the Douglas World Cruisers ( l924) which were crew-manned. Ripley pointed this out.
She was a passenger on that flight .

Charles Lindbergh is important in history because he was the first person to complete a nonstop transatlantic flight. He flew from New York to Paris in 33 hours.
