The Stamp Act was created in 1765, mandated the use fo stamped paper or the affixing of stamps, certify payment of tax. On the day in 1765 when the new act was to go into effect, the stamp agents had all been forced to resign, and there was noone to sell the stamps. After a stormy debate, Parliament in 1766 grudgingly repealed the Stamp Act.
