Astigmatism is an irregular shape of the front of the eye. Although focusing can improve there will always be some parts of the field of vision that will be blurred without corrective lenses.

Can you get astigmatism later in life?

Astigmatism means that either the cornea or the lens of the eye is not shaped properly bending light as it enters and creating multiple focal points which are seen as blurriness. Astigmatism is something you're born with. Most people, many who don't wear glasses have some astigmatism, but not enough to notice or cause any problems. Astigmatism may get better or worse while our eyes are still developing usually between the ages of 8-22, but it won't develop suddenly. As we get older, our eyes start to degenerate and we need glasses for reading. A doctor prescribing glasses for reading will correct a very slight astigmatism as well; if you're wearing glasses anyway, you might as well have the best vision possible.

There is no problem in using prescription safety glasses as they are designed for a specific job ie yours! However if you are ordering them online you may want to think about what problems you might run into here. For example Do you have a recent prescription you can use? What size of glasses do you need? What safety standards do you need to fulfil for your workplace? It is always best to check with your safety supervisor at work to confirm the safety requirements for your glasses and your workplace. What is astismatm?

I think you may mean Astigmatism? This is a common disorder if the cornea. The corneas of your eyes are shaped unequally causing out of focus vision. It is not an indicator of any serious health problem and can be corrected with eye glasses or contacts....see an ophthalmologist (eye doctor). Many Wal-Marts have vision centers now too, you can have your eyes checked there and get a prescription if you need glasses.
