Democracy has one very considerable advantage over other systems of government, which is that it contains a non-violent method by which the public can rid themselves of a government that they don't like and obtain a new government, by the simple expedient of voting. In non-democratic systems, a change of government is usually accomplished through violence, which can be tremendously destructive. So, even though America has often had a corrupt or incompetent government, the democratic system itself has served America well, as a peaceful means of regime change. Americans understand this well enough that they would be extremely reluctant to give up democracy.

No gift is given to any generations. You have to make your life the way you want it to be. The beauty of a democracy is that people are given the freedom to live as they choose.
