There doesn't seem to be any reference to 'making' anyone free in the New Testament.

In fact, if you read long enough one will find that the Apostle Paul encouraged persons who are slaves and / or in the service of Masters were not automatically loosed from their responsibilities as such, although they had become Christians; and so, no longer solely responsible for paying a sin debt that could never be paid by mere man.

What The Bible does say about freedom is that if one learns Truth, Truth make one free, but not SET free.

The freedom spoken of is considered more a spiritual freedom from the bondage of sin and its weight that so easily besets the believer, ie, carrying an extra load.

Hope this helps to get you started.
