[2008oct20]The ozone hole is past its peak size, and will start shrinking until it is full summer in the Southern Hemisphere. This year's [2008] hole was a little larger than last year's [2007], but not as big as the record [2006].
The ozone layer has stopped depleting. It is due to the ban on CFC's.
Answer is: "Loss of 70% of the Earth's Oxygen Generating Layer that is known as Phytoplankton"; is bad News indeed.
One recent development regarding the ozone layer is that a study in 2021 found that the ozone hole over Antarctica has been slowly healing since the ban on ozone-depleting substances was implemented in the 1980s. However, another study in 2022 identified new sources of ozone-depleting chemicals that could potentially slow down the recovery process.
One recent news from NASA related to ozone depletion is the discovery of a new ozone-depleting gas called dichloromethane. Scientists from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory found that emissions of this gas, primarily used in industrial processes, are contributing to the destruction of the ozone layer. Another news is that NASA scientists have been monitoring the recovery of the ozone hole over Antarctica. Their observations have shown that the hole is slowly shrinking and is on track to fully close by the middle of the century.
I found out when it was reported on the news. When did you find out? But seriously, look up the Montreal Protocol on the interweb thingy.
Get an x-ray or MRI, and have them look for scar tissue. Likely you would be spitting up blood when you breathed, if you had done acute damage to your lungs. I breathed ozone, and besides a headache and general weakness, my lungs are fine.
it is well know known that chlorofluorocarbons depletes the ozone layer. it's made up carbon, fluorine, and three atoms of chlorine. when the chlorofluorocarbons(CFC s) molecules are released from the atmosphere, they rise slowly until they reach to the ozone layer, where by they are bombarded by the incoming ultraviolet rays from the sun and release chlorine atom from the parent molecule. here, chlorine hits the ozone molecule and take one oxygen molecule to form chlorine monoxide and leave one oxygen molecule. again another oxygen atom tries to hit chlorine monoxide and free again chlorine atom and form oxygen molecule. then the chlorine atom repeats the depletion process again. this is because it possesses long lifespan of about 100 years in the ozone. the most shocking news is that, one chlorine atom depletes about tens of thousands ozone molecules. this attributes the increasing of the hole available above Antarctica and give the opportunity for the ultraviolet rays to penetrate and reach the earth. in return skin diseases, green house effects, unpredictable weather, cataracts, immune suppression, premature aging of the skin...etc.
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are synthetic compounds that were commonly used in refrigerants, aerosol propellants, and solvents. When released into the atmosphere, CFCs can reach the stratosphere and break down ozone molecules, leading to the depletion of the ozone layer. This depletion allows more harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation to reach the Earth's surface, increasing the risk of skin cancer, cataracts, and other health issues. Additionally, CFCs are potent greenhouse gases, contributing to global warming and climate change.
It takes about a month for a news layer to grow back
Put ice in a igloo or insulated cooler, then wet news paper over the ice, then a layer of live lobsters, then wet news paper over the lobsters & then another layer of lobster & wet news paper, you can do this 4 or 5 times. Do not let the lobsters sit in the water as the ice melts. drain off the water regularly, as needed. Fresh water will kill them fast, if they drink it. Keep them cold & moist & they can stay alive for up to a week like this. Once at home, put in frige & put wet news paper around them so they don't dry out.
Graupel is often considered good news because it is a form of precipitation that can improve skiing and other winter sports conditions. It is softer and has a higher moisture content, making it ideal for creating a good base layer of snow.
