Sounds like the switch is bad.

depending what year check the turn signal switch. on the end if you turn it counter clockwise the parking lights should come on and if your turn it further the headlights will come on..
In this order only. Turn engine off. Depress parking brake. Turn engine on. Lights will turn off. To turn lights back on relase parking brake.
You probably hit the parking light switch inadvertantly! The switch is on top of the steering wheel column and is a rocker switch. I think that pushing the switch away from you will turn the parking lights on and pushing it towards you will turn them off - it may be vice versa though! Parking lights are for use in some countries when you are parked on an unlit street so that other drivers can see your car.

To operate the headlights and running lights on a 1998 Chevy Malibu, locate the headlight switch on the left side of the steering column. Turn the switch to the right to activate the parking lights and further to the right to turn on the headlights. The headlights will automatically turn off when the switch is turned back to the off position. For automatic headlights, ensure the vehicle is in the "Auto" position if equipped.
