A cylinder of fairly constant diameter, resting on a base somewhat broader to give stability. At the top, it may have a small beak to aid pouring. Up the side will be a scale indicating the volume contained.

On a precision cylinder, you may find alongside the scale, a couple of tiny scratch marks indicating the calibration positions.
