Lava and magma are not rocks because they are liquids and cant harden because they are to hot to harden and cant cool themselves down long enough to form a hard structure. Magma and lava is rock - it's just been superheated by the Earth's core.

rock because when the lava or magma cools slowly it starts to harden.
It creates it because when a volcano erupts, it releases lave and magma which will eventually cool, dry and harden, which creates a volcanic island.
Volcanic bombs, large blobs of magma that harden in the air, lapilli, pebblelike bits of magma that harden before they hit the ground, volcanic ash, forms when the gases in stiff magma expands, and volcanic blocks, large angular pieces of solid rock.

Pebble-sized bits of volcanic rock are called lapilli.
