Whether a plant responds positively or negatively to a stimulus (sun/light, water, nutrients, etc.)
The relationship between the amplitude of muscle response and the voltage of the stimulus is generally linear. As the voltage of the stimulus increases, the muscle response increases in amplitude up to a certain point. Beyond that point, further increases in voltage may not significantly increase the muscle response amplitude or could lead to muscle fatigue or damage.
Generalization in classical conditioning occurs when a conditioned response is elicited by stimuli that are similar to the conditioned stimulus. Discrimination, on the other hand, involves learning to distinguish between a conditioned stimulus and other similar stimuli that do not elicit the conditioned response. In essence, generalization and discrimination are opposite processes that are both related to how an organism responds to different stimuli in a classical conditioning paradigm.
interoceptor: responds to stimuli arising within the body exteroceptor: reacts to stimuli in external environment, and typically they are found close to the body surface.
The difference between an external stimulus and an internal stimulus is that an external stimulus is a stimulus that comes from outside an organism. But an internal stumulus is a stimulus that comes from inside an organism. An example for an external stimulus can be that when you are cold, you put on a jacket. An example for an internal stimulus is that when you feel hungry, you eat food.
A reaction is what happens to the body when a stimulus is applied, a response is what happens next; i.e a stimulus illicits a reaction which illicits a respose. For example, glucose in the blood (a stimulus) causes the pancreas to release insulin (a reaction), which in turn causes the cells to take up glucose from the blood (a response).
the difference is that, stimuli is the plural of stimulus; that is stimuli is feelings while stimulus is feeling.
In an experiment the independent is the stimulus, the thing controlled or applied by the experimenter. The dependent variable is the response, the reaction to the independent variable.
The strongest associations between the conditioned stimulus and the unconditioned stimulus are formed through repeated pairings of the two stimuli. When the conditioned stimulus reliably predicts the unconditioned stimulus, learning occurs through classical conditioning. The more consistent and closely timed the pairings, the stronger the association becomes.
A stimulus is a change in an organism's surroundings or body which causes it to respond. Hence, a response is an organism's reaction to a specific stimulus.
Any internal or external change that brings about a response is called a stimulus. As a key homeostatic regulatory and coordinating system, the nervous system detects, interprets, and responds to changes in external and internal conditions.
