Exo- means "from " and -cyto-" means cell and -osis is a greek suffix that means "process" or "change". Exocytosis is a process that pushes something out of the cytoplasm. An example would be that of vesicles "dumping" their wastes out of the cell.

Phagocytosis is an example of Endocytosis (taking in/infolding of substances)

There are two types of Endocytosis:

1. Phagocytosis
- Cell "eating"
- Engulfs Solid material
- results in formation of vacuoles

2. Pinocytosis
- cell "drinking"
- intake of liquids
- results in formation of pinocytic vesicles.

Exocytosis: the reverse process to endocytosis. It is the release of materials from vesicles or vacuoles that have fused with the plasma membrane.

Unwanted substances from the cells are excreted by the process of exocytosis.
Exocytosis is basically moving substance from the cell to the outside of the cell through plasma membrane.
Exo = out and cytosis = of the cell.
